We live in the age of DIY. The financial crash of the last decade definitely contributed to this. Rather than paying for new goods and services, people started to repair and build from scratch. It’s not a bad way to live, and If you’ve personally subscribed to the DIY ethos, you’ve no doubt earned some handy new skills.

When you prepare to embark on a new DIY expedition, you likely think about the Pros and Cons. On the one hand, you might save a lot of money by doing it yourself, all while getting to implement the design choices and personal flair that you desire. On the other hand, you might not have the skills or the time to do justice to the work. These are the kind of considerations one has to make when deciding whether or not to DIY interior painting. At All American Painting Plus, we’re always happy to help you with your interior paint job. At the same time, we also respect an enterprising DIYer. Here’s how we like to think about these questions.

To DIY or Not to DIY

When it comes to DIY painting, you’ve got to think about a lot of different aspects of the work in question.

    1. Do You Have the Time? Painting isn’t quick work, especially if you want to do it well. Do you have the time to commit to two or three coats of paint to all of the walls and ceilings in your project? Do you have the patience to let the paint dry adequately before jumping into the next coat? Do you have time to do the careful setup and preparation necessary to complete a clean, sharp job? If yes, DIY may be for you.

  • Do You Have the Skills? Painting looks easy, but it’s not. There are many tricks of the trade that make the difference between a mediocre paint job and a great paint job. Painting contractors know how to make this work look easy, and to leave you with a smashing finish every time. To do the same, you’ll have to do a bit of research and be willing to buy some new tools. Do you think you have it in you?
  • Do You Have a Flair For Design? You wouldn’t believe how many customer questions we answer onsite. We always take the time to tailor a project to the needs of the customer, which is why we are a respected Virginia paint contracting source. If you DIY the project, you’ll have to find answers to these questions on your own. If you feel that you understand the best way to paint each room in your house (for weather, for light, for mood, for function, etc.), then the DIY path may be the best choice.
